THE CHUNG
MUSIC SCHOOL
Stowe School wanted to create a Music School suitable for 130 staff and pupils for music, with an auditorium to seat approximately 200.
As the school is situated within a Conservation Area, it was essential to use high-quality materials that complemented both the natural surroundings and the existing neo-classical buildings within the Estate.
Farmington worked closely with the school board, its design team, and architect Nick Cox, to develop the three wedged-shaped, interlinked buildings with varying levels and a sweeping, curved façade. Farmington installed the structural support framework and all the Bath stone cladding.
Stowe’s Music School won the RIBA South Award 2014 and was nominated for both the AVDC Design Award’s 2014, and Georgian Group’s “The Giles Worsley award for a new building in a Georgian context”.
